I hope this makes sense. I was wondering how many of you have acrylic nails and did you keep them on during your pregnancy and or after the baby was born. It might seem dumb but I am really used to having my nails. I either take them off completely or keep them very short.

Dr. said that as long as I'm in a well ventilated area it's fine. I have never had a problem with fungus and I take very good care of them. I go once every three weeks, not in the salon for long.

Okay I'm a nail tech and have been for 9 years. Here is what I tell any client who is pregnant.
First it's personal choice if you want to keep them.
Second your exposure to the "flumes" is very limited, and a GOOD salon will have a ventilation system that limits the amount of fumes in one area.
Third If you have concerns you should talk to your nail tech and Dr.
In ALL of my 9 years I’ve never had a client take her nails off because she was going to have a baby.

The kind you do yourself are fine (like the glue on ones in the store). Don't go into a Nail Salon though....the acrylic fumes are not good for the baby. If you want to get a manicure or pedicure go to a day spa where you are not around any of the fumes. It might be a little more expensive but its worth not risking it.

During pregnancy u should not be getting acrylic nails done, the fumes are harmful to the baby...If u must have nails then try going for the kind u do at home, but its best to keep them off,u will have to get used to it eventually because it is hard to have them done after baby is out...I had y nails done after my baby was born and took them off because it was too difficult and they poke my baby when changing him..Good Luck!

This is a topic where you'll get some opinions on extreme both sides. I did the reading on the reasons behind why people don't do it and it wasn't convincing enough for me to give 'em up. I wore my acrylic nails with both my kids, mainly because my natural nails are super thin and they drove me crazy breaking off all the time and snagging on my clothes.
Oh, I also colored my hair...and neither of my kids have third eyes or tails.

Some ppl say not to get acrylics when you're pregnant...I have two children and wore them...my kids are fine...the only thing that bothered me was the smell in the nail shop it gave me a serious headache while i was in there but after a few minutes outside i was great. the only thing with the nails is to be careful to not scratch the newborn. i think its all your preference

I am pregnant now, and this is my first. The nail salons aren't good for a pregnant woman and her unborn. Too many chemicals in the air. So I would advise not to during pregnancy. After I believe it's okay. Just make sure not to bring your baby with, good luck.

I think I'd be somewhat concerned about fumes or the possibilty of infection in a nail salon. If you do them yourself and in an area that is well-ventilated, you should probably be okay---but, to be on the safe side, check with your Dr. first.

Had acrylic nails during pregnancy, but had them removed after baby was born. It isn't practical to have lenthy nails and trying to care for a fragile baby.

They are fine to have; just make sure when you are having them done that there is ventalation in the room. Also, you may find your nails grow faster and are more brittle during pregnancy causing the cost to go up.

They say the acrylic is toxic to breathe in while your having them filled or put on. You also need to keep in mind that you could get a fungal infection that would not be good. It's entirely up to you.
