If you heat matter it will become less dense. This is because when you heat something it expands or gets bigger slightly, increasing it's volume. However it will still weigh the same. Just like a hot air balloon. If you heat the air it will become less dense and rise,

less dense...something about the composition of it being more "active" and so they "bounce around" with more energy, so same mass but with greater volume
