Extremely! Manatees are among the most passive animals you could possibly find yourself in the water with. Not only do they not mind humans, I've had them swim INTO me on their own accord.
Also, I've had the pleasure of swimming alone with a single manatee, and after a while it came closer to me and rolled over so that it was stomach up... All in all, an extremely docile and adorable creature (albeit VERY large).

sure it is against the regulation to attitude a WILD manatee because of the Marine Mammal secure practices Act. whether, you could bypass to particular parks one among those Sea international and others that have particular activities which incorporate swimming with manatees. as long as you do no longer startle them (in user-friendly terms because of the fact of their capability) and don't get close to a mom and her infant, they are between the friendliest animals on the earth. they are endangered so in case you get caught with wild manatees, you will get fined by skill of particular quantities, looking on what state you're in.

It is safe but it's illegal, you are supposed to stay 50 feet away from them. I almost did once but I wussed out cause the bull put himself between me and the babies so I was a little nervous about it. If there aren't babies present you should be ok just don't get sandwiched between two of them.

Sure they are gentle giants. I have had them swim up to me many times at a place called Blue Springs in Fl. You are not supposed to touch them cause they are protected. Oops!

Yes. I have, several times. It's great--but have a buddy standing by just in case you find yourself in trouble. Once is a while a young one will push you to the bottom-it is just trying to play with you. I've never had it happen to me, but have seen it. It scares the crap out of everybody. Best of luck.
