How about if there was a gap when you went into a completely unrelated occupation, then went back to school for teaching because really you needed to help your own child..then help others with the degree (a disability)..and if a mentor said not to reveal that you are a parent of a child with a disability because you could be perceived to be a child advocate or parent first..there is a bit of a parent prejudice by the teachers in the special ed world...so if you need to hide the whole reason you went back to school to be a teacher..how do you answer the above question or even the question about why you studied special ed??? i'm not good at making up stories obviously. the truth isn't working well, but i did get a leave replacement based on truth...still..i think i need a good answer to these questions in interviews..when administrators seem to want very conservative teachers that won't be child advocates...any ideas? administrators? teachers that sit on panel interviews???

I use this question a lot in interviews and what I like to hear is a general background answer that somehow leads into what your goals and dreams are for the career I am about to hire you for. If you can tie your past into your future, you are hired.

Stick to the positive , and stress the things about you that make you a good teacher.hobbies, accomplishments, interests, and goals for when you get your own classroom. Let the interviewer know if you would like to start a poetry club, a science club, an art ehxibit, etc. Let them know you are enthusiastic about what you can do for their students.

What's the most interesting thing you've ever done? Talk about that. What's your goal in life? Where would you like to see yourself in ten years? Tell a little story or anecdote, and tie it in to talking about your own personality. Try not to be boring!

Polly is right about the truth, because if you lie and they find out, you are not getting the job.

I would stress things that make you a good teacher -- that might be your education, might be your rapport with kids, could be how well you know your subject.

Start off with date and place of birth. Then follow up with your family. Then concentrate on youself.

First, what are your interests?

How well do you do in school?

Who are your friends?

What are your future plans?
