It's been a while, but here's my shot:

You're talking 1984, right?

Well, they both mind control...electroshock and interrogation in the Ministry of Love. The person in control is a symbol of the larger 'man in charge' and both of these figures are absent from the key players lives. When they try to enjoy life they are punished harshly. There is distrust in both communities.

I'd guess that the medicine is a metaphor for conformity...you'd have to back it up with some quotes though. Check with the scenes where the nurses are dispensing the meds...see if they tell the patients to be good and just like everyone else....or something along those lines.

Good luck!

Oh properly. became 1984 banned in particular international locations? you ought to study that.

I haven't read it yet, but I plan on doing so on my next trip to the library. I'd love to know if it's any good.
