they understeer ferociously. they are impractical and people will laugh hysterically at you.
Go for it, i could do with cheering up.

If you forget the horrendous understeer and the image issues they probably aren't a bad used buy - see the current "Top Gear" mag for some more of an idea - but given their used values you will get a lot more cred and a much more fun drive by spending £3-4K on a 7-10 year old Mini Cooper S (original, not the BMW 0-Series!!). It will hold the road and its value better, and they will never, ever be uncool!! They might not have the latest safety features, but get hit by a Chelsea Tractor in anything that small and your chances are similar whatever. Get a Mini, end of.

I think it depends on where you live. When I was in Munich, Germany. It was a great city car. But if you live in a place like the Los Angeles area in Southern California, it is very spread out. I would not recommend it. There are too many SUV's if you get in an accident you will be squished. If you live in a place like San Fransisco and would use it for city driving. I think again would be a great option. It would be easy to park and get around the city in.

Don't see the point of them, they're no narrower than other small cars, & I can't see any advantage in being shorter. A Clio/Punto/Corsa etc. has more seats, bigger boot, better handling & no worse fuel consumption/running costs, & trust me, you really dont want to do a long motorway drive in a Smart, which you can in a normal car. Plus you'll look silly!

they are very maximum economical, inexpensive to run and insure. The overall performance is amazingly energetic at city speeds. you ought to get a "pastime" type which has the totally computerized gearbox & air con. an appropriate city automobile. Downsides; The gearbox takes purely somewhat getting used to; the automobile does not start to creep once you're taking your foot of the brake like maximum automatics. There are purely 2 seats in spite of the undeniable fact that they are huge and mushy.bags area is wonderful for procuring yet no longer for vast suitcases. The steerage is easy at parking velocity, yet somewhat too easy at twin carriageway velocity. Mine is a 2005 type so the latest one may well be fairly distinctive.

I have never driven one, but i would not recommend it. Think about it, a smart car is a death wish.
A little tip would knock the car to its side! An accident with more impact would crush you . . . sorry :(

No thanks. Just before christmas I saw a smart car parked up and I laughed my head off as it had reversing sensors fitted.
Wat a prize **** that owner / driver must be.

No, i know a few people who have had problems with engines seizing and if you are going to service it yourself it is a nightmare getting to the engine.

Only if you go for the forfour. I rather like them, they feel like a solid little car & they handle really well. I also like their looks.
