I am thinking of buying a concealed cistern, to work with a wall hung pan, i realise i need a wall hung cistern with supports but i would like to know if all cisterns and pans are standard - will they all fit together?

thank you

Check with DIY shops around. To confirm whether all cisterns & pan are standard or not.

If you mean a wall hung pan, then as you say the best way to go about it is to buy a frame with mounting supports built into it to attach the pan. The inlet hole in the pan will be a standard size as will the L shaped pipe to deliver the water from the cistern to the pan., but as the hole is a cast hole in a piece of pot it will never be completely round so the cistern will come with a grommet which will fit into the hole in the pan and then the pipe will fit tightly into the grommet to form a good seal. The one thing to make sure of is that the pipe goes into the pan squarely not on a kink as this will cause the grommett to work its way back out again. One of the best concealed cisterns on the market is by Grohe, they might cost a little bit more but the difference is well worth it - one to really avoid is the one made by RAK. Take your time & plan the way you're going to do it and you will have no problems

The only thing which connects a hidden cistern and the pan is a length of standard size pipe. If you are competent at DIY, you won't have a problem, except crossing your legs until you have finished the job. A plumber would do it in no time, but if you do it yourself , it will take ages. For a man, no problem, as long as you don't eat too much curry beforehand - just use the washbasin or any handy lamp-post . If you are female, or there are women in your home, then get a plumber, unless alternative facilities are available.
