why do some country's allow women to be circumcised?

is this true, and if so WHY,and should this be banned by the un convention

It is banned and anyone perrforming this barbaric act will be charged under international law

a quick run-down for anyone who does not know the procedure.

Removal of the clitoris, sewing of the labial lips to leave just a pencil sized hole for urination and menstrual blood.

Not quite the same as removing the foreskin now is it.

In fact Amnesty International refer to the act as FGM Female Genital Mutilation.

The same reason why they allow males to be circumcised, culture. It's all in what you are used to and grow up accepting. Girls are circumcised for all of the same reasons as boys. Cleanliness, less sexual sensitivity, healthier, more attractive to the opposite sex ect.

I agree the circumcision of unconsenting minors should be banned....for both sexes. This is something adults can and should decide for themselves.

Yes, some countries believe that if a woman is circumcised she will be faithful to her husband because she will get no pleasure from sex, and YES it should be banned because it's a horrible way to mutilate and humiliate a woman.

EDIT: TO WANDERER, The practice of removing the foreskin of a man compared to the removal of the clit of the woman is a HUGE difference. A man who has been circumcised can still get pleasure from sex while the woman counterpart will get absolutely nothing from it after that point. I think that you need to do some more research before you open your mouth again.....

I think it should be up the the individual, when they are old enough to give consent for such an operation. Why does America not only allow, but encourage men to be circumcised? I feel that it is equally barbaric.

I guess nobody cares about the mutilation of a man, I'm not saying that they are the same thing, but what's good for the goose is good for the gander, if you condemn female circumcision but not male circumcision you are a hypocrite.

Why do they also allow innocent young boys to be circumcised? The poor kid doesn’t have a say in the matter, so isn’t that also child abuse.

If you had ever seen what it does to nine year old girls you would want it banned too. Its mainly Muslim countries where women are classed as dirty because they bleed. Its very painful and deprives females of any pleasure ever during intercourse. They also do it without any anaesthetic. Is a nasty practise.

Why should a woman enjoy anything, let alone sex, when they are chattels in a male dominated society? One good reason for not having sharia law in this country and any Western male who thinks this is okay has the instincts of a rapist.

it's not circumcision for females. it's complete removal of the clit.

there is no reason for doing it other than to insure that women do not get sexual pleasure.

and it's done on 12 year old girls without anesthesia
