My teeth aren't perfectly white, but I use a cheap spinbrush and post-brushing whitening rinse (Listerine and Crest both work well). Anyway, my teeth are definitely whiter than they used to be, and they feel a lot cleaner, and this is from someone who drinks coffee compusively and smokes.

There is no good way to whiten teeth without using strips or gel. Whitening products work because peroxides open the pores on your teeth (like a sponge), which allows the whitening material (bleach) to penetrate into your teeth. The whitening material needs to be on your teeth for a certain amount of time in order to even work (depends on manufacturer, 15min-3hours). After this time period, the material is not working. Toothpaste and rinses do not work because you wash them away. Finally, white strips and gels do not damage your teeth. Teeth will become sensitive because of the pores opening, but it goes away.

Brushing and flossing a few times a day seems to work for me..... I constantly get comments on how white my teeth are and I haven't used my bleaching gel in probably 4 or 5 years.
