Its almost like a cult mentality!!! I've lived in Europe, Australia and Canada and people in those places have a "if it happens great, if not o'well". Here in America its like marriage/kids by 27 or all is lost. Why do Americans take marriage and procreation so seriously?

You are exaggerating a bit, as the portion of single adults in the US is at record levels and increasing, etc.

But to a degree yes you have a point ... but the question is, why are Europeans, Canadians, and Australians NOT that way? Not being that way seems to be a recipe for cultural suicide. All of those other regions have fertility rates below the replacement level, and are certain to experience declining populations beginning in the near future (as Japan and parts of Europe already are experiencing).

Within 50 years, among the regions you cite, only the US will still have a stable population. The others will be in a death spiral. Long term, those carefree social attitudes are rather anti-Darwinian, and those carefree genes will disappear from this Earth.

You have to look at the roots of American society. We are a nation quite literally founded by Puritans- the original holy rollers. Europe on the other hand was where all the partyers stayed, and Australia was of course founded as an ex-British prison colony, so u can figure it out.

At a more social level, America is also deeply inset by our wonderful quality of optimism for the future- something that has made us the economic superpower of entrepreneurship and upward mobility..and this also passes on the economic security required to have children. All the other nations are more socialized in tax structure so there is a larger pressure toward minimalization of financial burden, which children of course bring.

In any case, be glad we value it. Wait and see what happens to Europe , Canada and Australia in 25 years. At the rate theyre going, ever schoolchild there will be reading textbooks on killing the infidels.

Unlike Western Europe, Australia and Canada, the US has a large religious population. And usually religious people think that kids are the only reason for living or some other such nonsense. So I'm sure that has something to do with it.

That's interesting. I wasn't aware that this was an American phenomena. I never really understood it. There is nothing appealing about it. Especially if it doesn't work out and you have a child. What a nightmare divorce is in this country.

I wasn't aware that this was purely a US problem.

I think as time marches on, many of us are leaning toward a single life style.

Because sometime in your life you have to grow up and take responsibility for yourself and your family. When you bring a new life into this world, you better damn well be responsible to care for it. I thank God my parent were.

Some things are too important to have a cavalier attitude. Mindsets of "if it happens it happens, it not, oh well".are cowardly, it shows a lack of will and determination to work hard for what is best for a family.
