Using Windows XP, Qwest 2-wire wirelss modem. Got modem recently, set up wireless on laptop using Qwest config settings. Now both desktop and laptop get internet access, but for some reason the laptop can only get internet when the desktop is on. What's up with that. Did the setup create some kind of internet sharing or something. Have set up plenty of wireless connections, but never had that happen before. Any good suggestions out there?

It sounds like it was set up like that. I would try this. On th elaptop open internet explorer and click tools-internet options then click the connections tab. Click setup and tell it you want to connect to the internet. Then tell it you want to set up your connection manually. And finally that you want to connect using a broadband connection that is always on. Then go to tools-internet options, connections, and click the LAN settins button. In there will be a box that says automatically detect settings, make sur eits checked and try to go online. If you can't get on, go to the command prompt by clicking start-run and typing cmd and hit enter. There type ipconfig /release and wait for your IP to be dropped to 0.0.0.0 once thats done click ipconfig /renew and it will give you a new IP. Now try and go online again and you should be good. If this doesnt work do all the same steps on the main computer. All this is assuming you have your modem connected to a router and both computers connected to the router as well.
