I probably wore this book out taking it weekly from my elementary school library in 1962 or 1963. It was most likely a fairly old book at that time. The main character was a little girl who loved to swing on a rope swing probably in her backyard. I think she may have fallen off the swing as part of the story. It had great illustrations.

Caicos Turkey is correct - "What Katy Did" by Susan Coolidge. Coincidentally, I just remembered it from childhood and have been reading that book and "What Katy Did Next". Here's a lovely site where you can read it, with illustrations and extra links to books mentioned:

my little sister had a book called mean jean. it was about a elementary school bully that ruled the playground. there was a new girl, katey sue who didnt know about mean jean and she liked to swing and jumprope, play ball, etc.. hope this helps
