Okay I am neither agreeing or disagreeing with what you have written basically cause I have not had the chance to give it a great deal of thought. However I have read what Dakota said in the interview and she doesn't see anything wrong with it. They have stated that it is not really a rape scene so much as what the pieces of the story make you believe. You do not see any rape taking place just a hand, something else and you hear a zipper (I think they said). I would think that there are other movies out there that portray this stuff to a greater detail. Such as The Hills Have Eyes and many years ago the Jodi Foster film. I do not think that these are right to put in film but so much of it happens in real life why not address it?

Apparently you've never seen "Taxi Driver"...
Tell me this, have you not realized that the scene is not promoting raping children? Have you realized that sometimes such films will draw attention to helping the victims of said crimes? You know, sometimes this sort of thing is actually good for victims' rights...
Oh, and Dakota Fanning isn't exactly "little" anymore. She's a brilliant young actress, taking on roles that most young girls couldn't manage. Bravo to her for her uncanny acting skills. Maybe roles like this will keep her from fading into the oblivion of smiling pretty young faces, and will help her to become a mature young actress with a real career. Here's to the next Jodie Foster!

I don't agree that because an act portrayed in a movie can motivate some sicko to commit the act it should not be shown. This movie is about some real things that were going on in that era. She was acting, and she was not naked or anything....the director portrayed a rape scene by certain activities. It is very easy to portray an act in progress, like it mentions in the article you reference.
Let's not have the news on TV anymore!!!! It can motivate some sickos to commit more acts!
Does that make sense?? Its no different than what you're saying here.

She doesnt seem to be hurt by the filming of the movie. She is defending her right to act in a movie. It is not graphic and no rape is actually shown. Allusions are used instead and only her face and hand are shown. It is somewhat disturbing that the adults who advise her chose this film for her however it happens in real life entirely too often to children like the one in the movie so she is telling a story but its not about the rape so its about going on. That needs to be addressed in our society, too.
Also "little" Dakota is 12 years old not 5!!

Are you new? Hollywood has always been about killing, drugs, and sex. No one was offended by all the other movies out there that are much sicker than this one. The point of the movie is to show you how she overcame what happened to her, unfortunately there are sick people out there who will use this movie as their personal porno. The whole industry is sick and full of discusting people. I feel sorry for the children who's parents push them into the film industry. GOD help us all.

I have to agree with some of the peoples answers here, First nothing is below Hollywood, second, Hollywood amkes movies based on real life, and this stuff happens. Now If Dakota's parents deem it ok for her to be in this movies and to be apart of the sceans, then so be it, it's a parents decision, just like it's a parents decision to spank their children rather than a time out, not the states decision to make in my opinion!

It happens in real-life, why cant it be in a movie? But yeah, sounds dumb. If not Dakota Fanning, they would have found someone else, if theres a story to tell they will tell it. The Da Vinci Code, The Passion, and Schindler's List pushed a lot of buttons in their day, but as long as there's no nude scenes, there is nothing wrong with this movie other than its a chic flic!

I would say that it depends on two things: 1) On the overall message of the film, does it condone or condemn? 2) How it is filmed, graphically or not showing too much? Because, after all (and i'm not saying that this film is doing this) how could a film be expected to decry something without, to an extent, showing it. For example, a film could not be a legitimate anti-drug film if you didn't show drug use and the devestation is causes. I haven't seen the film, it could be crossing the line, but I would withhold judgement. The age of Dakota Fanning, well, yes, that's a little disturbing.

Pedophiles are going to assault children no matter what. Why do people feel the need to blame movies, music and television for how people act? Can't people just be bad people because they are bad people? Media and all isn't making people bad, it is in how they are raised, and psychological disorders they inherit. It happens for real so what is so wrong with depicting it in a movie? It's not like they actually had someone rape her to do the movie, or even close. Grow up people!!

I don't think this will motivate rapists. Actually, I think talking about these subjects will only further demonstrate how evil and ugly these crimes are.
The way I see it, this movie may actually help the situation. Many many rapes are never reported. Maybe some young woman will see this movie, and decide to finally go to the police and tell them what she went through. This movie may actually cause a rapist to be prosecuted.
