Replace or refund depends on the result of your water test. As sad as it is I work at a PETCO. When a fish dies what you need to do is bring in you dead fish and a water sample separated from the fish. We will test your water and let you know if there is anything thing (pH, ammonia, nitrate, etc,) that is too high or low in your water that could be the possible cause of death. If you water tested A-okay we will replace the fish. If your water is chemically off than OUR store (meaning the one I work at) will refuse a replacement but we will refund you the price of the fish.
Chances are there is nothing wrong with your tank. Tetras in general do not handle stress or environmental changes very well.

Some will. Call and ask. I know some pet store will require you to bring in a sample of the water so they can check the levels. If the levels are okay then they will replace the fish. If your levels were way high or low, they won't because it was your fault the fish died. Good luck.

Yes, they probably will refund your fish that died, if you follow these requirements.
#1. have the reciept showing proof of purchase of fish
#2. bring back the dead fish
#3. bring back a sample of the tank water the fish died( in bring it in a a seperate container then the dead fish, you can use tubaware containers or bags)
#4. It has been over I think it is 60 days since you got the fish

You have 15 days from the date of purchase to return any fish. You must also include a sample of the water (in another bag that is not with the dead fish) so they can analyze it and see if it was your fault.
They will give you credit for the fish for taking these steps.

Neons die particularly. As reported petcos fish arent solid. maximum community fish shops quarantine there fish an you infrequently see ineffective ones interior the tank. At petco they do no longer quarantine there fish and that they have greater rigidity from the transport technique. The cycle reported above is particularly significant. i did no longer have this concern whilst installation my tank because of the fact I purely took a clear out bag from a cycled tank and enable it run interior the water for a whilst. solid success

Yes, but if it has been past 15 days they wont sure you will need the fish and the reciept but make sure cause of death wasnt another fish attacking him they dont really like that and make sure to throw in a water sample.

some do.... take the fish back with your reciept. the worst they can say is no, and you're out a couple of bucks,,,, it sounds like your tank isn't cycled properly,,,, it usuallly takes around 2-6 weeks to cycle a tank so that it's ready for your fish, unless you use biospira, or cycle, or if you get substrate or filter media from a friend with a healthy tank.
good luck, hth!!
