Get a good moisture cream such as Aquaphor and do not stop using it, Use it at night and first thing in the morning . It sounds like you stop using it, which is wrong. Dry skin is not going to go away. Offices are dry and certain seasons make it worse. Use your gloves at home until your hands heal. Make sure you wear rubber gloves if you do cleaning or dishes. Use soaps that contain lanolin, no alchohol and use those sparingly.

Try using a cream with an ingredient called "dimethicone" in it. Aveeno has a couple. (One is for babies, same ingredients, but cheaper!) You could also try Aveeno with oatmeal. Oatmeal is very healing. If you are using very hot water when washing your hands, try using cooler water. If it does not clear up, you should have it looked at by a nurse or doc. It could be the beginning of eczema or psoriasis. (Don't freak out, not a big deal, but may require medicated cream.) And yes!...anytime you have an open cut or sore on your skin, you can catch an infectious disease. Good luck, I hope this helps.

Try this: buy some "Bag Balm" at your pharmacy or feed store. Don't laugh. I know it's for cows udders, but it'll help your hands. Honest. Put it on your hands at night. Also wear cotton gloves if you can find them, to keep the bag balm on your hands. It costs about $7 or$8 per tin, but it lasts forever. During the day, use Curel. It sinks in and isn't greasy.
