Earlier today the power went out for about 2 seconds. It was long enough for my computer to shut down and when I turned it back on the internet would not work. All the other computers in the apartment still have working internet. It has to be a problem with the computer because I've hooked my ethernet cord up to a laptop and the internet worked fine. I've attempted to reset the cable modem, the router, and the computer with no luck. I've also tried repairing the connection and it says that it cant renew the IP address. Can anyone please help me? If you need anymore information post an answer and I'll edit my question. Thanks alot

First thing you should've done was get a surge protector. Black outs have huge power surges that can affect a lot of electrical equipment, especially computers.
Second thing you should've done was leave the computer off for a few minutes. You should've unplugged everything that's plugged to your ethernet(modem, etc) for about 3-5 minutes then plugged everything back in it's place. The thing you shouldn't have done was reset your modem. I'm not sure what kind of modem you have but resetting it might've done a bit more damage than you intended it too.
You may have to call your local internet provider to help you remove and re-install your internet connections. Doing this cleans out your cache and it helps get rid of corrupt files. Like I said, I'm not sure what kind of internet connection you have but if you go into your control panel, then click on 'System Manager' and locate all of your internet connections and see if there's question marks by them, if so, then it can easily be fixed.
The only thing I could suggest is to call your internet support provider. They can help walk you through that process a lot better than I can.

It sounds like a small problem. Your IP address in this cpu got changed or lost. If you get your service from At&t just call them to get the IP address and manually put it in yourself. They may have an easier way.

Once you have the IP address, keep it in a log for later mishaps. It sounds like you know how to do it so I won't explain how to go about finding the area you need to put this infor on your cpu.

I experienced a very similar situation about 2 weeks ago. I was not able to get around my problem at all. I had to reformat from my manufacture disk. I hope you have better luck.
