Can't say who invented the seat, but the word 'chair' came from the word 'chaise', which was a light open carriage for one or more persons. So the timing of the word chair dates from them. A chair is defined as either a movable seat, or one with a back support to it.
The fore-runner of the chair must have been in use thousands of years bc.
