Yes, it is a special coin. Edward did not become king of England, as he married an American divorcee. So anything that was made to celebrate his coronation is of historical / collector interest because the coronation never happened.

Don M confuses Edward VII with Edward VIII. Edward VII was King from 1901 to 1910. Edward VIII was the King who abdicated in 1936 because he wished to marry Wallis Simpson who divorce made her un acceptable to the Church of England hierarchy.

Edward VII was crowned in 1902 and when he died, his brother was crowned George V in 1911, so it's not a Coronation medallion. DG means 'Dei Gratia' (by the Grace of God), then 'Brittaniar Omni Rex' (King of England), FD 'Fidei Defensor' (Defender of the Faith) and 'India Imperator' (Emperor of India). Hope that sheds some light!
