There is no way to tell the gender of any goldfish by 'just looking' ... I know I have one male and one female by the way the 'male' chases the 'female' around the bowl, because that is a 'breeding behavior' and they can't really 'breed' because the bowl they are in is 'too small' ... goldfish need at least 'two feet' if they're relatively 'small' and you want to breed them ...

Yes, but it can't be guarenteed until they show tubercles or lay eggs. Tubercles are little white bumbs on the male's gills when he's ready to breed. The other way is difficult. Even I mess up occasionally and I'm a breeder. The female will have an anal vent shape that sticks out more than the male and sometimes it looks like their is an extra scale sticking off.

If you look down on the fish (as in from above), if one side is bulging out more than the other, it's a girl, because that bulk is the place where she keeps her eggs. It's not easy to see in an intant, but if you look carefully, you can tell.

maybe, I dont know how but I know the gender of a betta by looking at it :)
