It came down to either quitting or dying a slow, painful and lonely death, not to mention a miserable life.

I never "decided" to live a drug free lifestyle, I was born that way.

Everyone is controlled by something. I chose to believe in a promise that the Spirit of Christ will give me the freedom to be the best that I can be. If I let something else control my life like drugs or alcohol then I am ineffective in using my talents or making better choices in how I want to live. I have a stepson who chose to use drugs as a young teen. He is now 42 and his drug habit still raises its ugly head. His maturity level has stayed at early teen level which makes relationships and even keeping a job very difficult. He is unable to make different choices for himself at this time because of habitual use of drugs and alcohol. Drugs take away your choices and sometimes your life. He wanted to be a commercial artist at one time. His talent was eaten away. For me, I want freedom, not slavery to drugs.

It makes me feel so much better to do the things I want to do. I am involved in church, community, as well as sports related activities so it is a priority to be able to do those things drug free. Being healthy is a main goal in my life, and that is one of the ways I choose to do so.

I have better things to do then fry my brain and poison my body. I never had the desire to ever try drugs.
