Hi all! I am a South African currently living in Britian. I plan to go back at some point, as all my family still lives out there. Can anyone suggest websites where I can find info on crime rates, house prices etc. as I need to find the best balance for me and my little boy. Thanks so long!

Firstly there is a plethora of crime sites on South Africa so bad is the situation there.
You can chose from africancrisis, crimexposouthafrica, southafricasucks etc but the best for you would probably be southafricathetruth.net. This is a site that reports the crime without any of the restrictions of the ANC controlled media and has a number of other links which will answer your many queries about the Country. Despite what the denialists who have already answered you say South Africa is the most violent, crime ridden Country on the Planet which is not at War. The South African retort of "crime is everywhere" is hollow as it does not reveal the extent to which crime governs day to day life in that Country. The UK for instance does not experience 19,000 murders per year and more than 50,000 rapes per year and that is only the tip of the iceberg. There are numerous car jackings, assaults, baby rapes, farm attacks, home attacks all involving weapons and serious injury.Of course there is crime in the UK but statistically you are 50 times more likely to be murdered in South Africa than you are in the UK and that is using the SA Government figures which Interpol and the SA Medical people say are grossly understated.
Apart from the crime, raising a child in SA is not for the faint hearted and you should consider the standard of education, over crowded classrooms.teacher quality.violence and drugs in the playgrounds and the fact that academic and professional qualifications from SA are virtually worthless in 1st World Countries. You also need to consider employment and the fact that there is a 40% unemployment rate. If you happen to be White your chances of employment are virtually nil through racist employment laws. As a female you would be classed as previously disadvantaged but in practice Corporates will not employ you under threat of heavy fines for not meeting Employment Equity quotas. Public Services are in tatters and unless you have private medical care you will be unable to rely on Hospitals etc. South Africa is falling apart and it is common cause that after 2010 it will accelerate down the drain.
At the end of the day it is your decision but weather apart there is no comparison between the UK and South Africa which would cause any sensible person to move to SA long term.

We left SA five years ago and I would not go back to live there.

Do your son a favour and stay in the UK!

Please dont come back...if you thinking of coming back...you be sorry as this country is on a downward slide into Hell....
First thing they ask you at the Arrivals in S.A. ''Do you own a Gun''
If you say no...They will try and sell you one...
Zimbabwe, South Africa Hmmmm just about the same place..Stay safe where you are...bring your child up in a safe place...
