Classroom performance. Some children buckle under pressure. When they do these state tests everything has to be so quiet and no one can even ask the teacher a question. Even if the question makes no sense to them.

I have spent time teaching and I do not agree with this state testing ps. I prefer classroom performance.

Children have different way of learning, some are fast thinkers and some are slow although they can both come up with the correct answer however, the slow thinkers might loose marks because of time.

Some children are good with work in the classroom because they are comfortable with their teacher, or their environment (classroom). Therefore, they can perform well and come up with the right answer, or express their view of lessons or subjects they learn.

Good to be tested about subjects, the question is, have they learn anything out of it.

They should be classified by structured classroom performance. When I was growing up my parents had sent me to a Christian school which used Accelerated Curriculum. When I first went there I was tested to see what my aptitude was in each subject, & what my grade level/knowledge was in each subject... My stronger subjects at the time were History, Science, Spelling, English, but my Math skills back then were deplorable! So I was 2 years ahead in Science, 1 year ahead in English, Spelling was on the level with my grade, but in Math I needed to do the previous years level of work. It was great. I was able to advance in most subjects, get caught up on the ones I was slow in....But most of all, I was able to learn at my own pace, instead of being shoved on through the classes at the teacher's pace. This happens a lot as mentioned in "Why Can't Johnny Read". We have a nation of children who aren't able to read or spell properly. Other countries are out there with children who learning capacities are so much higher than our children which is sad...

Excellent question. I think children should be classified by the classroom and the school as a whole by state testing.

Classroom performance. Some questions asked in state testing aren't even covered in all schools. Students should be graded based on their ability to learn, their willingness to learn, and then by performance.

Actually, the schools used to group kids by ability. At some point someone thought that for the kids who tested poorly it was bad for their self esteem so they don't do that anymore.
