Pregnancy comes down to whether or not the egg gets fertilized and whether or not it divides correctly and whether or not it gets implanted. If these three events occur successfully, then you are pregnant. Sperm can live in a women's reproductive system up to 72 hours. So if you have sex then ovulate 2 days later...you can still get pregnant (although less likely so because the female system attacks the sperm and make them less able to penetrate the egg cell wall). That egg stay in your system for the remainder of the cycle; until you have your period. Be careful however because you can still fertilize an egg while on your period if it is not sloughed out first. It can implant mid-shedding! Amazing. The timing of when this occurs depends on every woman's individualized hormone schedule and hormone potency. This is how birth control works...it limits the follicle stimulating hormone and luteinzing hormone, which has to do with the egg release. No egg is released means no pregnancy...but remember some women have POWERFUL hormones...which is why the drugs are not 100% (that and human error). I would not trust the statistics. Best thing to do is do a Google scholar search of recent studies conducted in medical and cell biological and reproductive journals. If the report sounds fishy, it most likely is.

Actually thier is only a 24 hour window that you can actually get pergnant. However sperm can live 5-7 days in fertile cervical fluid and therefore you can pregnant. As for the 1 of every 10 I'm not sure. But you only have a 20% chance in a healthly couple that you will concieve each month. If you google pregnancy all of these answers are avalaible to you.

I don't know about the 1 in 10 thing, but I've heard about the four days of the month thing. That is also hard to pin down though because sperm will wait for up to three or four days for an egg so this method cannot be used as birth control or to predict the best time to "do it" to get pregnant.

I would agree with these statistics as they are based on HEALTHY WOMEN - women who have a 28 day regular cycle! Text book women! I base this on the fact the the egg lives for only 24hrs and sperm lives for 2-3 days....so there is your 4 day window. If on day 1 you have sex and on day 3 you ovulate and have sex again there is a good chance you'll become pregnant.
Not every woman is the same, therefore the statistics can't be used for all...that's almost impossible. Everyone woman's body is different...we all have different cycles, some ovulate on the 10th day, not the 14th day...that is where it becomes sticky and the statistics are false.
Basically, unless you are in complete tune with your body, you never know when you could become pregnant....some happen right away and others it takes years!

I dont know about the 1 out of 10 thing, but only being able to get pregnant 4 days out of the month is true. I think its 5-6 days but you can only get pregnant when your ovulating and that is only for like 5 days. So yes that is true.

I don't know about the 1 in 10 odds but I do know that there are 4 dyas when you are the most fertile. It is easiest to get pregnant then and you are much less likely to be able to get pregnant during the off days but everyone is different. So you can't really plan on just 4 days to get pregnant. With my first we didin't even have to try (it was like a bad sex ed story) with my second we had to try for a few months.

Well, that's partially true. It's not technically 4 days out of the month, but 4 days out of your cycle. All this means is that you have 4 days once you've ovulated that you are the most fertile and can get pregnant. This changes when your body releases an egg earlier than 14 days after your period or if it releases later.

This is half true and half false. True part: A womans egg is only viable for about 3-4 days per month...it has to be fertilized in that time frame to make a baby. BUT- You never know which part of the month those 4 days will fall in, you can ovulate at any time of the month.

I have heard that more than once from doctors and on the Medical channel. It is actually alot harder to get pregnant than most people give credit for. Also 30% of pregnancies can end is miscarriage so getting pregnant and giving birth is more of a miracle than given credit for

I think it is more likely to get pregnant when you ovulate, but you can get pregnant anytime. Also 1 out of 10 is that per month or at all? If it were per month then yeah, probably. All I know is I am going to, and I don't care what the statistics are. Good Luck!
