i am talking about states that have less crime, no matter what type, beautiful weather, less poverty & not too much racism. Lots of good jobs where you can settle down, good income earning states, places where you would feel safe or good enough to settle down with your family? A place where you feel you will NOT complain much about things.

Please don't think these answers are corny but I am a female truck driver and after traveling in all the continental US states here are MY choices. They are my choices because in the 5 states I am listing people here that I have met are DOWN to earth. They are NOT trying to prove anything to anyone. Most are just simple, hard working, friendly, helpful and honest people.
#1-West Virginia
#2-Montana
#3-South Carolina
#4-Mississippi
#5-Arkansas

1. Wisconsin.
It is a very beautiful state you get to experience all four seasons, the crime rate is one of the lowest, there is a very low unemployment rate also one of the lowest. The Schools there are in the Top 5 Iowa Basics testing. The average Income is around 48,00 cost of living is reasonable. I have been all over the country and the people there are just kinder, I am going to be building a house there this summer, I can't wait.

NOT California. I am a 41 yr old native northern Californian.
California is vastly overurbanized, urbanized around the automobile, so living without a car in the large urban areas is very tough, even though there are more urban train systems in the last 20 yrs.
The SF Bay Area real estate prices are the highest in the nation, and the pace of life has gotten too fast here. Crime is bad in urban areas like SF, Oakland, Richmond; I can only imagine what it's like in parts of the LA area.
Things are cheaper inland in the Central Valley, Sacramento, Fresno, etc., but the Central Valley is flat and the heat in the summer is unbearable.
There is a lot of natural beauty in California, but the problems in the urban areas far outweigh the natural beauty.

1. Hawaii for all the reasons mentioned.

2. Florda ( coastal areas, not inland or northern) Great weather, prices staying someone average. Alot of things to do year round.

3. South Carolina ( great economy and good weather--low crime rates)

4. Connecticut ( my home state and it happend to have the highest standard of living) weather is lousy though and crime can be bad in certain areas.

5. Washington. ( the State of course) Summers are gorgous , winters are wretched. But the scenery is incredible and the lifestyle seems laid back.
