I'm a single mother of a young child and I work a full time 8-5 job. I want to earn a degree in human resources, but with my already jam packed schedule, attending classes will not work for me. I am concerned that I will put time and money into an online program/college to obtain a worthless degree. What online colleges/universities actually supply positively recognized degrees?

Generally, If the online university is accredited, most employers will accept it. So then the question is: Is the accrediting agency a recognized agency? Accreditation by an unrecognized agency is a common ploy used by online "diploma mills". In the United States, the Council for Higher Education is the agency that oversees legitimate accrediting agencies. CHEA maintains a directory of recognized accrediting agencies online, http://www.chea.org. So check with the the on line university and see who they are accredited by. It may also help to check with employers in your area that you may be interested in.

As for colleges/universities that supply positively recognized degrees, there are several big ones: University of Phoenix, American Intercontinental University, Devry, and many state universities and colleges also offer online degree options

Most of the on-line universities are For Profit corporations. The business world does not take them seriously.
