I think you're making this more complicated then it needs to be, or are missing some information. To find the average score you would add up 7.3 and 3 and then divide the sum (10.3) by 2, which equals 5.15.

However if the question was, "out of 22 tests, 83% of the time I score 7.3 and 17% of the time I score 3" the answer will be different. In that case you would have to figure out what is 83% of 22 (and what is 17% - which will be the remainder). To find 83% of 22 you would use the following formula:

83/100 = x/22

Cross-multiplication (83*22 and 100*x) would get you to 100x=1826. Then you reduce the equation to x=1826/100. So 83% of 22 would be x, which is 18.26. The remainder or 17% of 22 is 3.74. You can get that number by repeating the equation as 17/100=x/22; 100x=374; x=3.74.

Now if on 18.26 exams you score 7.3, your total score for all exams is 18.26*7.3 = 133.298. Then on 3.74 exams you scored 3, so 3.74*3=11.22. Then add the two total exam scores together, which is 144.518. Then, to get your average, divide 144.518 by 22, which equals 6.569.
