Dell & HP will outperform the mac, and I bet it's cheaper too.

I'd get the Dell inspiron as the company has the best testing, hardware support, and help desk. Plus you can sign up for the 3 year guarantee for the machine, so if anything goes wrong (that's not your fault) they will replace it - and fast.

Apple is always the best when it comes to notebooks. I was actually going to buy a MacBook, but I found a great deal on a MacBook Pro. Either way, I couldn't be happier with it's performance, battery life and appearance. They are all around great notebooks. Why bother with a PC notebook when the MacBook can run Mac OS X and Windows XP? Of course you're going to pay a bit more for the Mac, but in the end, you get your money's worth with tons of great software and a design that beats any PC notebook. The built in iSight camera is great, as well. Get the MacBook, you won't regert it. I promise.

Apple is more expensive but it is a superior computer and probably best if you plan to keep it awhile. Dell Tech Support literally sucks. You cannot get an English speaking person EVER.

Dell's are really good. You probably want to find one with a good warranty, too.

Good Luck!
