Not entirely true Muttbob. There are windows manufactured that have more than one "function". I`ve installed awning windows that would normally not be considered egress using the normal function. But it had the capabilty to be opened as a casement in an egress situation. In answer to the question, Personally I think there are very few reasons to buy a used window. The window in question has been installed, removed, and you`re going to reinstall it. I can almost gaurantee some sort of toll has been taken on said unit. Not to mention the unknown age of the window. My suggestion, buy a new one. It`ll be cheaper in the long run.

An egress window is just a window of a certain size.
There is a building code requirement for an emergency egress, or escape, window from every sleeping room. At least one window in each bedroom must be of sufficient size to permit the occupants to escape in case of fire and to also allow a fully outfitted firefighter to enter.
Minimum width of opening: 20 inches. (508 mm)
Minimum height of opening: 24 inches. (610 MM)
Minimum net clear opening, Ground Floor: 5.0 square feet. (0.465 m2)
Minimum net clear opening, other than Ground Floor: 5.7 square feet. (0.530 m2)
Maximum sill height above floor: 44 inches. (1118 mm)
You can get one from any of the big box lumber stores (Menards,Lowes,Home Depot,...) for $80.00 to $100.00.
If you also need a window well for below grade then they can be pricey.I have used old hog shelters for this that I got for free from a farmer.
