With integrated circuits, the power difference between AM or FM remote starts is negligible. In other words, you probably wouldn't notice the difference. I'd go FM because FM is relatively immune to interference. Outside interference causes spikes in amplitude, not frequency. Plus, FM has a better range since a characteristic of FM is the ability to lock on to weak signals.

FM because the wawes go through objets and not around. (in a radio the fm has stations that are further away while am has only locacal and very near ones)

Never used either, but I would guess you get better range and less power usage on AM.
