The same reason many liberals are liberals, conservatives are conservatives, religious people are religious: They grew up around it and were raised with that ideology. Unfortunately, most people in this world don't like to think for themselves, so they believe what they want to without looking at all points of view.

In Iraq one group has the oil revenues [Sadam] and the other group wants the oil revenues. The USA supports one groups efforts to have the oil. It even went so far as to put sanctions on foreign oil to make them stop fighting over the oil.
Bin Ladin's group was not the group the USA was supporting.
so it was," you joined the other side." "Your helping them so now your my enemy."
The other group's idea was " the enemy of my enemy is now my friend."
But, never be mistaken they hate each other more than they hate the USA. Actually, when he did terrorist attacks against the USA he wanted the USA to say okay we see the light now we will see that you get the oil revenues instead of the other guys.
Neither side wants to destroy their biggest customer.
You may fight over where your best customer shops.
Will it be the shop down the street or mine?
But you don't really want to kill him completely.
When it comes to the economy they are not real sharp.
They stopped banks from charging interest. So when a store stops making money is closes up. Bank's were not there to provide what the new businesses needed. It was a domino effect and the economy went down hill.
Now the religious leaders can't say it was a bad idea because they would lose face or power in the community.
If they were not so greedy they could share the revenues and all make money. But, religious groups keep both sides fighting in hopes that if their side wins they will be rich. Which in fact they would be. The USA is just acting as a refreree to these people and getting killed in the cross fire.

"Hating USA" is an entelechy (spelling is correct). It's difficult to believe that Bin-Laden is something like Spektra, or one of them comics anthagonists that script writers need for what we'd call dramatics manicheism.
It's really difficult to hate a whole country, and perhaps Bin-Laden doesn't or isn't able to hate all the USA citizenship. And even if he hates, it becomes really difficult to hate a concept, an abstract idea, a word, all day long.
Let's talk common sense, and not begin like in that old political-religious meetings about the sex of angels. Bin-Laden is the cliché or standard of a very, very troublesome matter beyond the words of a single person.

the CIA was supporting a rebel group in Afgahnistan, Osama killed the rebel leader around the same day as 9/11. Al Qaeda was a coalition to defend outside invaders after the Russian deal with our help. Recent US backing of a rebel group against the Afgahn status qou eventually followed by a full scale invasion/ occupation drew the attention of Al Qaeda whom Osama was merely a member. Osamas actual services against the US led rebellion were contracted, not by Al Qaeda but some fool warlord who is long dead in Americas first days of actual coming in.
Osama is part scapegoat but also CIA trained, sneaky and dangerous with no qualms about taking jobs against us.

A few days after 9/11 al-Queda released a letter detailing their greivances with the US. Our media of course ignored it and spoon fed us the rubbish that al-queda attacked us because they hate our freedoms. Do a quick web search you can find it. There were three main reasons.

Many countries hate us, especially Arab countries right now because they look at us as interfering with their civilization, and just like our media at times, theirs corrupts them into thinking the worst, even though I agree the people who run this country don't give us such a good look, because all Americans aren't evil as the people over in other countries think, just like everyone in Arab countries aren't terrorist.
