Sure! Any excuse for a party is a good excuse!!
Before it became a Christian holiday, it was widely celebrated as the winter solstice. There's no mention in the Bible of what time of the year Jesus was born. In fact, if "shepherds were watching their flocks at night", that was only done in the summertime, because it's too hot during the day to put sheep out to pasture.
Since it was already a big holiday to the pagans they were trying to convert, early Christians appropriated the holiday. They also turned local gods into "saints" and allowed the converted Christians to continue to "venerate" them.

I celebrate a winter festival. This time of year is important to so many belief systems, that it has now become part of tradition. But I don't celebrate the birth of a fictional person, whose supposed teachings are ignored by many who claim to be christian.

Would it be a problem if they didn't? Most "Christians" don't even know what they are celebrating. If they did they would stop. At least Atheists have thought about what they do or don't do.

Some do. Its easy to celebrate christmas without brining religion into it. Santa Claus, Frosty the snowman, etc... they have nothing to do with Jesus.

i celebrate xmas with my family because it's a good excuse to get together with your loved ones and have a great meal and give each other meaningful presents. but i don't celebrate the religious aspect of it - for me, it's more of a celebration of the winter solstice.
