In a recent study at National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland a group of geneticists were trying to narrow the gene which caused fuit flies to be albino. Startlingly enough the fruit flies were not only albino but the males were chasing male tail and only mail tail. This would support the conclusion that being gay is genetically wired into human beings. So if further research could prove this fact then could that information be used in a court of law to further gay rights?

The problem with your interpretation of the study is that it relies on an inappropriate analogy. There is a major difference, both physically and psychologically, between male fruit flies and male human beings. Homosexuals are apparently attracted to an entire human body, as well as a human mind, but fruit flies may well have no such attraction. They may simply be responding to some pheromone that gets released. I doubt that homosexuals respond to pheromones in the manner fruit flies do.

So you may see the genetic change as causing behavior that is remotely analogous, in some extremely narrow sense, to homosexual behavior, but the conclusion that human homosexuality is genetic simply does not follow.

Gay rights should not be pursued in court, what one court can rule another can overturn, so a victory in court has essentially accomplished nothing in the long term. Consider abortion rights, all it would take is 4 person majority on the Supreme Court to overturn Roe Vs. Wade, then everything we've worked for is lost. The same is true of Gay rights. The issue should not be Gay or Women's rights, but human rights. We are all human, we all deserve the respect and courtesy due from one person to another. The way to achieve that is through education not coercion, if one side gets what it wants in court, the only message sent is that the other side needs to get a different court. How does that help anyone? It only perpetuates the cycle. If it were empirically demonstrated that sexual preferences were inborn, to the Christians it would change nothing, it would still be forbidden, still a sin, and they would argue, as they always have, "But you don't have to ACT on it!" You will also run into those who will just close their eyes and say "Oh, I can't believe that no matter what anyone says." There is no way to get through to people like that, sad, but fact of life.

All rights are genuinely civil. What different sort of rights are you able to think of of? so which you assert that your hetero- thoughts are wonderful as long as you do no longer act on them? How long have you ever no longer been appearing on them? in case you're talking a pair of eating place's "top" to exclude whomever they opt to, then you definitely ought to ask what "gay" activities or what "black" activities are those ppl captivating in by ability of getting right into a eating place. The black guy might desire to interior the previous be excluded purely because of the colour of his epidermis. If I stroll right into a reastaurant on my own as a gay guy, i'm infrequently captivating in a "gay" interest. ought to the eating place be waiting to exclude me purely for being gay? Had a stunning (gay) brounch with a pal this AM. next to us have been an ex-student of mine and his present day bf. We moved our tables at the same time and, after some bloody mary's, this is a danger that the 4 human beings have been captivating in some "gay activities," purely from our communication! yet I stay in a blue state, so this is not a controversy right here. Is it nevertheless a controversy on your trailer park?

Very interesting. Did you hear about the female komodo dragon that gave birth to 5 babies without ever in her life being anywhere a male dragon? That aside, I think you idea is worthy of some thought but I fail to see what the issue of choice or genetics had to do with the legal rights of law abiding citizens who are not of a specific orientation. To me that is the crux of the issue. Like in Animal Farm...All animals were created equal, its just that some animals are more equal than others.

Thank you for your thoughts.

You might be right. Further scientific evidence could always be introduced as evidence in a court case considering equal rights for gays -- this is a real possibility.

In glaring contrast, they will probably NOT find a genetic cause for bigotry and hatred. Almost all humans seem capable of these traits, no matter who their parents were.

I don't see where it should come into play.

Lets look at choices....

Would it be right for me to say that anyone that drives a chevy is a second class citizen and will not receive the same benefits as someone that drives a ford?

So I am screwed because I think an Astro van is better?

The physical approach is much riskier than the social approach. Going for the physical approach could lead to things like attempts at using chemicals for behavior modification, aborting gay fetuses, etc.

Civil rights for gay people should not have to depend on proof of it being genetic. Civil rights belong to everyone whetever their colour, age, sex, sexuality, politics or religion.

Why should it matter?

Seriously, it's a widely accepted THEORY that handed-ness is genetically linked. There's absolutely NO PROOF of it, but there are LAWS against those who are right or left handed.

Well, maybe. But you can also prove that genetically some children will be born black. Doesn't make the world any less rascist.
