Especially when you know it's coming and there is nothing you can do to stop it, why does it still hurt so badly?

Because when you are connected to someone even if it is a short time...they leave a void when they go no matter who they are. One just has to fill up their heart again. There will always be people in our lives that come and go. You see it all the time when people move especially if you live in a transitional city as I do...friends you get close to move on. All you can do is be thankful for the time you had...instead of distraught over the fact that you said goodbye...remember the good times...and let those continue to put a smile on your face long after they are gone...good blessing to you..

i hate saying good bye. I cry like a baby. My dad was in the Air Force while I was young so we moved every several years. And I always had to leave best friends behind. I think it ruined me for life.
