No; this occurs when the egg has too many chromosomes. Normally the egg has 23 and the sperm has 23. With Down's Syndrome the egg will have 24. Unfortunately, there is nothing that can be done. As your eggs age, the possibility increases for Down's Syndrome, so if you are under 35 you are low risk for this.

No, you can't prevent it. Here is some info on it:
"Down syndrome (DS) is a condition in which extra genetic material causes delays in the way a child develops, and often leads to mental retardation. It affects 1 in every 800 babies born.
The symptoms of Down syndrome can vary widely from child to child. While some kids with DS need a lot of medical attention, others lead very healthy and independent lives.
Though Down syndrome can't be prevented, it can be detected before a child is born.
Normally, at the time of conception a baby inherits genetic information from its parents in the form of 46 chromosomes: 23 from the mother and 23 from the father. In most cases of Down syndrome, however, a child gets an extra chromosome - for a total of 47 chromosomes instead of 46. It's this extra genetic material that causes the physical and cognitive delays associated with DS"

A child with down syndrome has grown an extra set of chromosomes. It just happens to develop. There is anything specific you can do to prevent that, but make sure you live healthy now and when trying to get pregnant and of course during pregnancy.

There's really nothing you can do to prevent it, but there are tests early in the pregnancy that can determine if your baby has a likelihood of having down syndrome or not.
I'm 15 weeks pregnant and I've already done the downs test at about 11 weeks. It's a blood test and an ultrasound.

no count if or not the toddler has down syndrome is set on the 2nd of theory. From that factor on, not something that the lady does could reason it or take it away. even nonetheless, smoking marijuana pre-being pregnant could reason down syndrome. i've got by no skill heard that it does yet i'm purely asserting it fairly is achieveable. The Down syndrome is probably basically a fluke. it is frequently superb to be waiting to declare that somebody has a undeniable undertaking using fact of what they did using fact it makes us experience proof against that undertaking (i don't smoke weed, hence my newborn won't have down syndrome or a minimum of be much less probably to) yet for the main area issues like that purely ensue or they don't and we don't understand why.

It is most often a defect of the 21st chromosome, hence it is often referred to as trisomy 21 (three instead of two strands on the chromosome) although there are a few different forms of it, for example there is a type called mosaic downs, but it is not as common. It's genetic and there is nothing you can do to prevent it. They do screen for it in pregnancy so you may terminate the pregnancy if it is present.

unfortunately, no one knows the exact cause of the gene mutation that causes downs syndrome. and, equally sadly, there is nothing at all you can do to prevent it. the only thing you can do is see your doctor about testing to find if your child has a probability of having this condition, so that you can then make an informed decision on what the next step will be.

Its a chromosomal anomoly (a triple of a gene {I'm thinking #21} rather than a double of the gene). Its not like spina bifida where you can help prevent it by taking folic acid.

As I understand it is a mutation on one of the genes as the baby is developing. I don't honestly think there is anything that you can do to prevent it from occuring but it is rare.
