Dallas is not hot most of the year - in fact the temperature there is fantastic from mid-sep until june. Lived in Dallas for 11 years and agree with the comment that it is a strip mall or just a mall. Ft. Worth has done more for its downtown area - in particular the Sundance Square area. Downtown Dallas is scary, dirty. City council has yet to do anything about downtown and any reader of 'The Observer' - dallasobserver.com - will find how corruption, scandals and so forth have kept this city from growing.
San Antonio (now officially larger than Dallas) has a booming tourism industry, Houston also and alot more to offer, Austin as well. Dallas will always be in last place in Texas and lose all of its conventions business to those cities and Atlanta.
The best parts of Dallas are Highland Park and University Cities, Coppell is wonderful for raising kids and actually would return there if I had young ones to raise again.
But the city of Dallas has blown so many opportunities to improve itself that the public perception is so negative people don't want to be there. Dallas has lost: the Texas Motor Speedway, the Cowboys stadium, Lone Star park (horse racing) and other venues to the 'burbs' because of ccouncil infighting and political interests. All of the above have national recognition and have setup shop outside of Dallas. Result: hotel room, restaurateurs, taxi and the satellite businesses that go hand in hand with tourism have suffered and those are things you don't have another shot at. The only thing left in Dallas is the Texas - OU game which they will lose in 2 years when the Cowboys statium opens in Arlington.
Good job politicos ! and great job to the people that keep them in power. .......
Whoever likes Dallas is either blind or a fire ant.

Dallas has very little charater aside from the macho Texas thing. I've had some great steaks in Dallas, but the whole city is a giant strip mall.
I'll take Chicago or Florida any day.

I love Dallas. I was born and raised here. I went to the military because I wanted out of Dallas then I missed it so after I got out I moved back. I like Deep Elem, the west end. There is just so much to do. On one side you have cows and on the other businesses. It is a variety.

After taking a grand tour of the Dallas/Ft. Worth area in December 2006, I can honestly say that it is one of my favourite cities in America. Wish I could live there, but that will not be possible.

Dallas is the armpit of America. There is nothing unique about this place other than it is where Kennedy was killed. It is miserably hot most of the year.

I would say "the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex" is my favorite, because it is not just Dallas itself but the whole surrounding area that makes it so great. There is every type of goods and services, restaurants, auto parts, costumes, you name it, it is readily available here, plus beautiful lakes, museums. I love it.
