I have been going to a gym for a while. It keeps me fit but it is becoming repetetive. I am starting to feel like a hamster running in a wheel. I think gyms are an artificial product of modern society along with tinned food, mass media etc... i am now more attracted to real adrenaline-filled sports... skydiving, swimming, rockclimbing... but I don't have the time. What do you think ?

You have to vary your gym routine. If you go in and do the same exercises in the same order every time, not only will you get bored but your muscles will stop responding. Do different exercises, change your routine, use different machines.

Swiming and rock climbing are great exercises but they shouldn't be your ONLY exercise. They work on large groups of muscles but not ALL the muscles. for instance, rock climbing works all your muscle groups, but it's not a particularly good aerobic exercise, like runnning. You're stopping, catching our breath, making small movements.

And skydiving doesn't take any muscles at all, other than the ones needed to push yourself out of the plane. Adrenaline rush is great, but it not exercise.

Try mountain bike riding, rock climbing, etc. in ADDITION to working out in the gym. You need the muscles to start rock climbing in the first place.

I only go to the gym for the eye candy. i never seen so many fine azz men playing basketball and lifting weights in my life. Thats motivation enough to get my out of the bed and ready for a workout. Find something else that is going to give you a rush. Switch up instead of going through the motions and doing the same things over and over try something different. Set aside a day of the week and make the time to do one of the things you enjoy.

When you got the time, I say, go do those things you mentioned! But for now, you can visit some other gyms in your area and even chat to others about visiting theirs. Why not take up mountain biking or kayaking, canoeing with a friend and home exercising with a video or tv program? Keep up your great fitness regime!

I hate the gym - I keep fit by doing a few bits at home like sit ups, free weights, skipping - the best thing is to get a dog! - you can go for long walks in the fresh air or, put it on lead and go jogging.

You just have to be patient! Its not like you're going to be the guy from the Comcast commercial who picks up the bar and goes from skinny to ripped in 1 second! I've been going to the gym for like 4 years now, and I'm as physically fit as they come (12% body fat)!

I go to the gym because I don't have any other place to exercise. The street that I live on is high traffic, so even walking it is dangerous.
