No, you're not being a prude, I would be horrified if my 5 year old read that out to me.

As far as I'm concerned, if a book is aimed at young children, there should not be any swearing in it, "accidental" or otherwise.

Yes I think it's dodgy for a 6 year old! He'll be going to school telling the jokes and all the mums will be coming and telling you off because your son has been teaching them swear words!!

Don't take the book off him though, tear out the page!

:-)

You are indeed being prudish. I am all for watching out for kids in terms of content, but peeing is not something worth worrying about. In fact, I think that making going to the bathroom something taboo is what causes young kids to be too embarrassed to ask a teacher to go, resulting in a public "accident" that is far more scarring than reading a silly pun. If it's acceptable to give a child the book "Everybody Poops," I think they can handle a peeing insect.

Mild reference to bodily functions is quite normal for this age group; I'd be more concerned if there was sexual innuendo.

I took my 6 year old daughter to a panto last week. The genie of the ring was gay-acting, and came out with a reply to Aladin's request for a few more inches: "That's what they all want, luvvie!"

And this in a theatre packed with mostly children under 10

I would complain to the author and publishers as that is not suitable content for a young child's book. I know it is only a mild joke but it is still not really acceptable.

Hmmm, I suggest you to cut that page...It's better this way, so neither of you can read it ;) at 6 years you must learn to read and write, not learn original sweares...So rip that page with no mursey! He would not notice!
