Male bettas will fish with other male bettas and they will attack female bettas (except during spawning), but they are fine with other community fish that don't have long flowy fins that could be mistaken for another betta.
Female bettas will not attack other fish.

Generally a male betta will establish a territory in a tank. He'll defend it some degree from all fish. Generally he needs a large larger than 5 gallons or the whole tank is his. In general he won't seek out and attack non betta unless the non betta look like betta. Slow moving, and large fish are a bad idea. (Male bettas are poor swimmers, and most fish can out swim them.)
Just be aware that betta vary greatly in temperament. One of my bettas is named Snail Slayer for a reason. I had a female who would beat up males, and bullied a 4-5 inch sailfin molly.
Females tend to be less aggressive, but they will still fight with each other. Generally if you keep them 1 per 5-10 gallons they will be okay. They ignore most other fish.

Betta fish only attack males. It is a territory thing. If male bettas attacked female ones also then there wouldnt be any bettas.

they don't attack other fish, only other bettas or fish they mistake for bettas
males cannot be kept with any other bettas, females can be kept with other females as long as there are at least three but preferably 5 or more. both males and females are great in tropical community tanks in most cases. and when they don't work well it's usually because other fish are picking at THEM, not the other way around. just as long as there is no other bettas with males.

Bettas can do quite well in a community tank. I have 3 bettas (1 male and 2 females) in my 45g tank along with guppies and platies.
There hasn't been any instances of attacks or general disliking.
It really just depends on the attitude of your betta in question and whether you give him enough space of his own to be claimed as his territory.

Male Betta, and even some of the more aggressive Females, will attack some other fish breeds. Generally anything with showy fins or anything they feel they need to compete for territory with.
However, Betta can also be target for other territorial fish. You need to make sure to not put them in a tank with fish that may nip or pull at their fins as this can be very damaging.

male bettas can never be put together and if done properly and shown to eachother male and female can be together and any betta can be with a livebearer which is a fish that gives live birth . mollies, plattys, swortails, and guppies.
