To truly answer this question would be almost a personal preference.

However, in the past I have found that Dells are less propriatary than HPs when it comes down to the actuall hardware installed and I have found most of the time Windows XP has all of the drivers for the Hardware and I don't have to go hunting drivers if I change Operating Systems.

Now I will admit here at my house I have multiple computers made by different companies (3 Dell's, 2 HPs, and 1 Tangent) and for the most part from personal experience I do not have to keep drivers disc for the Dell computers. However, as far as the operation of the computers I really cannot tell any difference between Dell or HP, other than as stated issues finding drivers for HPs if I choose to upgrade the Operating System from what origionally came on the computer.

Dell. The co I artwork for switched to being a Dell domicile after years of undesirable HPs, Compaqs (owned through HP), and assorted different manufacturers. We presently purchase 4yr assure to save our prices flat/generic over the life of the device. i'm presently replacing Dells that are 6-7 years previous, or older. We do have a straightforward few Lenovo portables, because the particular manager prefers them for weight and specs and they do very last besides.

I've owned both Dells and HP. I would definitely recommend Dell over HP anytime. Dell has better technical support, easier to use, maintain and upgrade and is less proprietary than HP. HP quality seems to have suffered when they merged with Compaq.

Remember the old saying "You get what you pay for". If Dell is higher priced than HP then there is probably a good reason for that.

My cousin, a self-proclaimed geek, told me that HP is not worth the circuits it's programmed with. He says that Dell is okay, but Mac is where it's at. I don't know if I believe the Mac story, but their advertising is pretty good! Mac is better for "fun stuff", but I know that I will never own another HP. Good luck!

I've never bought"off the shelf" computers. I just always research chip sets and look for motherboards that utilize the chip sets/features I want,,;-)=

Opinions on puters are widely biased, my advice, go check out which puter gives you the most bang for your buck, and buy that.
Free advice is worth what you pay for it.. :)
