My little one is 4 months old, and I always have the tv on regardless if I am watching it or not, I usually have it on children shows for the music. My little one has started to enjoy Barney and Friends, and my fiance doesn't like her watching it. She enjoys the bright colours and the music. We disagree on it totally, I find its an ok cartoon for kids and he said no, what do others feel about barney?

I think thats its perfectly fine for your baby to be watching tv. And I also think that Barney is a good childrens show...bright colors, music, and lots of learning! My baby girl loves watching blues clues, and she is 11 months...so maybe you should check that out too!!

It's not about Barney specifically, it's just that some people don't think kids should watch TV that young. There have been studies to show that watching TV that young can have detrimental effects, usually behavioral problems as a result of the bright colors and rapid motions. (Whether it's true or not, I can't say, because nowadays there are always two sides to everything.) I personally felt the same way your fiance does. I saw no need for my child to watch TV that young. It's hard to stick to though, cuz everyone else around usually doesn't agree. I guess it's up to you guys. It's just something you each have your own opinion on, and you'll have to compromise or something. You could always get a Barney music cd so she can enjoy the music at least.
BTW - there must be something about Barney, cuz my daughter is almost 2 1/2 and loves him right now!

Barney is well hated by adults but well loved by young children. In all honesty my son really liked Barney and the Wiggles (equal gag rating) from about age 1 til 2 1/2 years old. Once he hit about 2 1/2 he decided that Barney was pretty dumb LOL
I don't see a problem with her watching it, kids like the colors and the fun songs and as she gets older it really does incorporate good life lessons. Tell daddy to relax and let her be, she'll grow out of it soon enough. In the meantime you can get her some baby Einstein videos, they are FABULOUS and in all honesty it's the only way I can get dinner on the table some nights!

i personally detest barney with a passion. but my 4 mth old loves the dumb show probably for the same reasons. actually he just loves tv. the sounds colours and movements keep him enthralled.
i do not let him watch a lot but if i need to keep him occupied i allow him a bit.
barney ( i hate him) is good for the kid, don't let your fiance upset you over this. if it was a fighting cartoon or so i would understand.
however, for the sake of peace you can let the little one watch something else if possible.

My 11 month old has been watching T.V., starting with Baby Einstein since she was about 3 months, I have Tree-house, a Canadian channel, on all day, she's fine she watched the shows she likes and plays during the ones she doesn't like. Music and bright colours are good for babies!!

Barney should die.
As a mother with a t.v. but without any chanels, Barney is Banned!
My son is an avid tv watcher. I always have on baby genius, brainy baby, baby einstein. The colors are beautiful, very interactive and wonderful music!
Also, he love Veggie Tales. That's his sweet-treat.
As a baby, his stimulization should come from us as parents or from age-appropriate shows.

I don't like barney. My son doesn't even like barney. You can get the same bright colors and shapes in Dora the explorer or Go Diago Go. My son loves them both. He love to watch noggin.

I have a 2 month old, he watches tv quite often. It lets me get my house work done and time for myself as well. I do not find anything wrong with letting a baby watch tv. Especially if it is cartoons, they enjoy it and it can be educational.

Personally I find Barney creepy, but I too am in the habit of leaving the tv on all day and find it a hard habit to break. Even though my son is much less active when it is on.

well i hated him when i was little!!!!!! And for some reason STILL DO ......... If you hubby dislikes it that much you should respect his wishes on the show.......there are plenty of other shows..and a 4 month old really shouldnt watch tv. Put her on the floor to play with toys or a tummytime gym :)
you never know when you wont like something and your hubby will.......give and take a little.........give him this and next time it will b your turn
