Two words for you: Civil War.
I was watching a PBS special last night and they were talking about slavery - particularly how slaves were more valuable than all the money the US had in circulation at the time. They were more valuable than the crops they farmed. The only thing in America that was more valuable than slaves was the land. If you think about it, slave labor was free. All the money plantation owners realized was profit because they didn't have to pay their slaves. Yeah, they fed and clothed the slaves - barely. Slaves were property and were not seen as people.
The masters' greed drove them to abuse and oppress blacks. If blacks were able to read, write and become educated and self-sufficient, the masters would have to work their own fields.
When the powers that be begain talking about freeing the slaves, the Southerns were outraged. They saw their precious fortune hanging in the balance and were so against it that they seceeded from the Union. If that isn't greed directly tied to racism, I don't know what is.
Even today, blacks are still looked upon as less than human. We're paid less to do the same job as others, even though we are well-qualified.
Good question.........

I'm not sure if greed is the word you are looking for. Racism is when one group that is more powerful (politically, in numbers, or developmentally/ culturally) holds the belief that they are better than another based on inherant differences (color of skin, origin, gender). Greed id the need for more than your share.

I think racism in America is will always be a problem because of the caucasion belief that they deserve to be in charge based on the fact that they white. Not all of them believe this, but enough of the people (in charge of the media, major corporations and political leaders) do to make it a problem.

Just look at every nation foreign land that Anglos have ever set foot on; they tend to want to take over. The people, the land, the commerce. When they do, they never leave. A perfect example would be the US military. We rarely help anyone that does not have a resource we can plunder. Foreign aid missions are common, but we rarely stick around if there are no resources. Examples include Africa (Rowanda) and Vietnam (South).

The question could be debated all day, in my case a lifetime since I will always be Black in America.

I love my life, and most obstacles are easy to overcome with hard work and prayer; no matter what the source. I don't hate white people, but I do consider their nature as I encounter them. As I am sure they consider the stereotypes they hold about blacks.

Cyrus, I think it's like this. You are familiar with the cancer cell. It is like a racist with greed in the human body.

It's attempt to dominate and usurp the human body (host if you will) it destroys the home in which it attempts to thrive in.

Cancer is negative or a form of negativity. In it's own lust for greed and dominance it destroys the host which in turn destroys itself.

We either be positive and attempt to be the antithesis of negativity or risk losing everything.

They are differant aspects of the same platform.

Greedy ones get jelouse and envyouse of other's sucesses, so they will find any reason to hate them, racism being the most popular,
That's at least my take on it, but maybe someone else will have another interesting theory.

There may be a relationship between the two, but I doubt it is a direct relationship. Both are extremes in our society, and they are extremes in the negative direction. However, they both provide us with ideas of what negative extremes are, and they allow us the perspective to value positive extremes and middle ground ideas and thoughts.

at worst its a sub-issue ...people naturally cling to and support their own race ... when one race trys to blame their problems on another then you have racism ...
