Your phone is locked so that it can only accept Tmobile Sim cards. If you use another provider sim card it won't work. If you want your phone unlocked you have to call and ask Tmobile to provide you with an unlocked code.

They require that you have your account in good standing, that you have service for a certain amount of time, and one more requirement.

If you meet the requirements then they will put an application in so that you can recieve the unlocked code. To recieve the code it takes about 24 hours.

Once you recieve the code they give you instruction on how to unlock your phone.Then you can use another sim card from a different provider.

Your phone will not be damaged by swapping out cards. Cell service providers typically lock the phone so that your SIM card from another provider will not work.

the phone is most likely locked to only accept t-mobile sim cards so the phone wouldn't work.
