My GF is Ethiopian, and they are a PROUD people with an incredible history. In addition, they are incredible fighters, having defeated a superior Italian army twice, although having to submit to Italian occupation during WWII.
Ethiopia is the oldest continuously independent country on the African continent, and is the ONLY African country (other than Liberia, founded by freed American slaves) which has NEVER been colonized.
They are also one of the oldest 'Christian' nations on earth, having adopted Christianity during the first century, even before the Catholic Church was founded by Constantine.
And, yes, they are smart. They achieved their objective in Somalia quickly, and they knew better than to stay as an unwelcome "occupying force" in a predominantly Muslim country.
I say kudos to them. If only the Brush administration had less hubris and more willingness to learn from others.

Dude, the Ethiopians must be geniuses if they can chase Al Qaeda out of Magadishu. Seriously, all it took was one Blackhawk down for the liberal citizenry of this country to start whining for a retreat.

Somalia has a smaller population and less diversity-strife.
