photocopy it all you want, just don't try to use the copy.

Its not illegal to photocopy a drivers license in any state. When you get a job the make a copy of your license and your Social Security card for tax purposes. Now if you use the copy to try to make a false ID, then you will run into problems.

Absolutely. There are many times it is necessary to photograph your ID. When you fill out a W-4 tax form when you get a new job, if you're applying for a loan, etc.
The illegal part would come when and if you tried to pass the photo copy off as your official ID.
