Growing up in the 1980s, I would have to say the Hartford Whalers is the team I think of when I think of a crappy hockey team. The Colorado Rockies would be up there, too.

I think of the Scouts/Rockies, who were terrible before making the move to New Jersey. I know they were awful their first few years as the Devils, but they turned that around nicely.

I think being a hockey fan for almost 40 years...the Washington Capitals. Even though they have had some great players, Langway, Dale Hunter, they just never seem to be able to string together any kind of dominant run for more than part of a season. Even with Ovechkin, they still are a long ways away from being an upper echelon team. Other thoughts...LA Kings pre-Gretzky, Hartford Whalers, mid to late 80's Noridiques..actually quite a few.. : ) Inevtiable that every team will go through tough times...gotta rebuild sometime...

Peace

Well the Colorado Rockies are now the New Jersey Devils and the Hartford Whalers are now the Carolina Hurricanes. The Atlanta Thrashers look like they will make the playoffs this year. That leaves the Columbus BlueJackets.

(Dis)Honorable mention:My Los Angeles Kings' have been VERY disappointing.....40 years, ONE trip to the Stanley cup finals, and a team who just hasn't gotten the Goaltending right since Rogie Vachon.

I think of the Blackhawks. They had a few half decent seasons back when they had Belfour, Hasek and earlier with Esposito but have not had a good season for what seems like 35 years.
I can't understand why a team that can finish near the bottom year after year would not have so many 1st round draft picks that they would eventually be back in contention.
Being a Leaf fan is bad enough so I can sympathize but at least we usually make the playoffs and give the fans something to cheer about but the blackhawks are worse.

Toronto Maple Leafs - they haven't won the cup since before I was born - 40 years ago. You can usually tell how old a Canadian is by if they are a leafs fan or not. Younger Canadians generally cheer for winners. Younger Torontonians usually are embarrassed and switch sports.

Don't forget the Hartford Whalers became the Carolina Hurricanes - current Stanley Cup champs.

The Coyotes Are The Worst All Time, Never Made It Past The Second Round Of The Playoffs Even When They Were The Jets.

The Coyotes and the Blackhawks. People who are saying the Blues have a short memory. Before last season wasn't the Blues in the playoffs for like 15 straight years or something like that. I know they were a good team every year before the lock out.

Phoenix Coyotes and St. Louis Blues this season. These teams have a spell of a few wins and back to losing. Blues have a good management team and will improve. Coyotes need to revamp the whole management. GM and coach have to be replaced.

Watching hockey on and off since '94...I'd say the Florida Panthers...other than that one Stanley Cup run in '96 against the Avalanche, I don't remember anything memorable they've really done.
