You know, nasty nappy hair that looks like a cat chewed it and then barfed it up? I don't understand how people can go out in public looking like that. I won't even mention the stench that tends to accompany the unwashed hair...

Update: To those who feel I am racist -- the particular offenders I have seen recently are white...I am also white. Rest assured in the past I have seen blacks and asians with dreadlocks as well -- I think they all look and smell terrible in all instances I have been around them regardless of race, color, etc. I think my main complaint is the stench (apparently all the people I've been around *don't* wash theirs) and the fact that their hair is all over the place including those that have to sit by them on public transportation. If they washed them and kept their hair short enough so that it was confined to their personal space, I would care less about them.

yes.dreads hold dirt.my mother had a friend that had dreadlocks and Muslims in my community had been telling her to get rid of them because they hold dirt(that's why dreadlocks are not allowed in Islam.
and when she finally cut them off.she opened one of the dreads up and it was all this dirt inside.and it doesn't matter if you wash your hair or not.dirt still gets in them.that's why they call them dread LOCKS.because it LOCKS your hair!

For the record, ANY hair that is unwashed will have an odor to it and people with dreads wash their hair as much as anyone else. If you come across someone whose hair does smell, it has to do with their bad hygiene habits, not their hairstyle.

How about we call them "locks" because there is nothing DREADful about the hairstyle. I have "locks" and I keep mine very well groomed and clean . Obviously the people you know need to learn some personal hygiene. Other then that I love my hair I wouldnt have it any other way! Nappy is Happy and Black is Beautiful!!!

I Know a Goth guy who put something in his hair to get dreads .....what ever it was, it had a awful smell

Listen you are stereotyping i have friends who have dreadlocks and their hair is cleaner than most let me tell you, and not only that they have high paid jobs and their hair does not affect their performance...you sound racist...and what you have said is not true of all of them, so get your facts straight.
