It is for my son, who will soon be 21. He is not a drinker and really doesn't play much video games. His main passion is music. He writes music and lyrics, plays guitar, and attends a recording school, where he is learning to mix music. I'd buy him something for his music, but I really don't know what he needs. I don't want to do something lame like a gift certificate. This is a monumental Birthday and I want to do something special for him.

Have you thought about buying time at a recording studio for him? Find a local one or one he can get to and check into the prices. This would show that you believe in him and his dreams are important to you, rather you share them or not. You should also write him a long letter telling him how much you love him and wish the best for him. It will be a keepsake he will have for the rest of his life and can look at when times are hard.

THe best thing is to ask him what he wants. Does he want a special party with friends out or? Any concert he has been dying to see? If not anything music related maybe some nice blank sheet pages so he can write in a special binder.

Maybe you could contact this site http://www.fairplaymusicalgifts.com/index.html and they could help you to have one of his songs professionally recorded.
