The only word I could think of was courtyard, but that isn't right.

According to an academic website listing of mall terminology there is no term for this...not surprising since most mall shapes are such that they do not have a "center". I would probably use the term "hub".

Sometimes they call it a rotunda, that's what it is at the mall of america in minnesota.
