this is not an attack at anyone who does smoke, but what are the good reasons for it?

I smoke because I find it relaxing and enjoyable. I really like smoking. I get an added benefit in irritating anti-smokers by telling the truthfully that I have smoked heavily since 1960 and have never been hospitalized or even ill other than an occasional, but rare, cold. Kinda creates a vacuum where their propaganda was.
The best reason: it keeps the anti-smoking bigots away from me.

Depending on age. I think that many people that start smoking start because of peer pressures. Some people start smoking at a young age.

By good reasons for it do you mean why one might start? If so, to be cool and do something your not supposed to do. It's an attention getter. It's really cool, after many years of it, when you start hacking up goo-balls and such and your peers tell you to quit and you once again show your defiance.

You can be the Marlboro Man or Joe Camel. It is cool.

Addiction to nicotine is the only decent explanation for smoking.

It is like any addiction it satisfies an urge. Once you become addicted you need to feed the ugly monster. Some people have more addictive personalities than others it sounds like your OK with no addictions.

Nothing to do with your hands, peer pressure, too much stress, need for relaxation, socially acceptable and it's addictive.
