The problem is that making it automatic could result in violation of the balance of powers.

Judge X hates Congressman Y and abuses his discretion every chance he gets, resulting in a felony conviction.

According to your thoughts, Congressman Y would be stripped of office upon conviction just because of a judicial branch decision.

I say that the legislative branch should review the circumstances of the offense and decide whether there are indeed grounds for removal from office.

No I don't think that they should because I know plenty of ex-cons that are reformed now and are trying to get good jobs and can't because of their past criminal history but legislators can be felons. That's not right!!!
